The Houston vs. Troy game started with Houston going on a 6 – 0 run before Troy was able to score its first bucket to cut the lead to 6 – 2. By the end of the first half, Houston had built a lead of 33 – 11, and it continued to show the consistent smothering defense it is known for.
L.J. Cryer (6 – 1, 200 G) led all players in scoring with 22 points on 8 – 11 shooting from the field and 6 – 7 from the 3-point line. During the first half of the game, he hit three from deep and from similar spots on the floor. During the second half of the game, he kept pace and continued to put pressure on Troy from the perimeter.
Emanuel Sharp (6 – 3, 210 G) was the second leading scorer for Houston with 14 points on 4 – 9 from the field, 2 – 5 from the three-point line and 4 – 4 from the free throw line. He did a great job of facilitating and ensuring his teammates got the ball in the right spots and ended the game with 4 assists.
Thomas Dowd (6 -8, 225 F) was the leading scorer for the Trojans with 10 points, 2 -8 from the field and 6 – 7 from the free throw line. He was a constant on crashing the boards for offensive rebounds and creating extra opportunities for his team.
The game was never really close and although Troy turned up the intensity defensively in the second half, Houston was still able to pull out the victory by winning 62 – 42.
